The Launch
The Family Community Resource Centre Kenya was
born on 12th of August, 2010 owing
to the support of Safaricom Foundation.
This was a special day for the founders and partners of the
Center including the residents of Jericho Estate. All were
gathered to witness the birth of the Centre. Among the special
guests were the area councilor, Antony Kimemia, Honorable
Reuben Ndolo, Honorable Gideon Mbuvi, the Deputy Mayor, George
Aladwa, the District Commissioner, the District Officer, the
Director of Youth Fund, Safaricom officials and representatives
of various organizations. However, the prime guest of the
hour was Les Bailles, Chairman of Safaricom foundation.

From the onset it was clear that this was no
ordinary event as all the guests were entertained with dances
and songs to their utter satisfaction. All were served with
drinks and snacks to cool their throats and fill their tummies.
Some of the guests were allowed to give speeches and most
talked about supporting the organization. One of the interesting
remarks was made by the area residents who pledged support
for the youth and encouraged the rest of the community to
participate in all activities organized by the youth and help
where possible or if asked to do so. He particularly thanked
the youth of the area through the project manager, Moses Oluchiri
for their commendable job in fighting drugs, crime and violence
in the community. On the other hand, the project manager was
keen to welcome the guests and gave a historical account of
the Family Community Resource Organization, Kenya. In his
speech, he encouraged the youth present at the occasion to
foster peace, prosperity and shun from drugs, sex and violence.

Further, appealing remarks were made by the
District Commissioner who told the youth that he would support
their projects especially environmental projects. He also
congratulated the launch organizers for making the event a
success and for their determination to prosper. Others guests
amazingly made their presence felt by making generous contribution
resource and money-wise such as Hon. Gideon Mbuvi, Hon Reuben
Ndolo, Hon. Dr. Shikanda and Deputy Mayor, George Aladwa.
Later during the day, a cake was cut and champagne
toasted by Mr. Baille and the organization Chairman thus signifying
the opening up of the Resource Center. Finally the meeting
ended with a prayer and closing remarks from the District
Officer who thanked everyone for coming. In this regard, the
organization is thankful to all for their presence, participation
and contribution towards the launch of the Community Resource
Centre.
